2018-2019 Internship Program

Growing leaders. Together. In the heart of the city.

We are hiring a cohort of five interns to begin working at First Baptist Church August 2nd, 2018. Each internship position is paid, and designed to help develop new leaders and advance the way we engage in ministry. We want to provide an excellent training opportunity, as we do excellent work together.

The internships will operate as a cohort and will include a weekly meeting together for prayer, training, and development. The overall internship program will be directed by Jeremy Adelman, the Adult Ministries Pastor, with specific ministry oversight by the ministry staff responsible for the intern’s ministry area.

Throughout the year, each intern will have the opportunity to grow as they work alongside one another, the pastoral staff, ministry staff, lay leaders and members of the First Baptist Church community. We are excited for you to consider applying for one of our five positions. The positions are as follows:

Serve Local Intern

The Purpose

It is First Baptist Church’s desire to grow and develop Christ-following leaders. Our hope is to help leaders achieve growth in all areas of life.

First Baptist Church is looking for a Serve Local Ministry Intern, to work in an internship capacity for up to ten months, beginning August 2, 2018. The intern will be a part of a cohort of five ministry interns. The cohort will meet together weekly for prayer, training and debriefing with the Adult Ministries Pastor.

The Serve Local Intern will help First Baptist run its Serve Local Ministries, which are mercy-oriented ministries to the downtown community. They will do so through encouraging member participation, volunteer coordination, organizing the events and additional tasks related to the execution of First Baptist’s engagement in these ministries. This will also include thinking creatively about how the events could be done better and working to enact those changes.

Dates of Internship: August 2018 through May 2019

Length of Internship: 10 Months (approx. 43 weeks)

Start date: August 2, 2018

Hours per week: 10 hours per week

This is a paid position.

Supervisor: Adult Ministries Pastor (Jeremy Adelman) will provide direction for the intern cohort and weekly direction concerning ministry assignments.

Educational Component: A plan will be developed between the intern and the Adult Ministries Pastor to complete ministry-focused education in addition to the internship hours (financial reimbursement is provided for materials needed to complete education plan). 

Projects and Participation for Intern Involvement

The Serve Local Intern will meet weekly with the Adult Ministries Pastor. They will be one of five interns working with First Baptist during this time period and will have weekly meetings with the internship cohort which will include prayer, training and development. They will also have the opportunity to work alongside the Senior Pastor, others on the pastoral staff and lay leadership at First Baptist. They will be asked to engage as part of the First Baptist community throughout their internship, including participation in Sunday mornings at First Baptist.

These are specific projects we would like the Serve Local Intern to help us with throughout the internship.

  • Implementation of Friday Serve events once a month
  • Implementation of Saturday “In Love Word and Deed” events once a month
  • Oversight of the church’s participation in the Sheridan Story partnership at The FAIR School, Downtown Campus
  • Volunteer recruitment and coordination
  • Additional projects as assigned and time allows

Worship Ministry Intern 

The Purpose

It is First Baptist Church’s desire to grow and develop Christ-following leaders. Our hope is to help leaders achieve growth in all areas of life.

First Baptist Church is looking for a Worship Ministry Intern, to work in an internship capacity for up to ten months, beginning August 2, 2018. The intern will be a part of a cohort of five ministry interns. The cohort will meet together weekly for prayer, training and debriefing with the Adult Ministries Pastor.

The Worship Ministry Intern will work with the Worship Pastor to help in worship service planning, volunteer training and leading music on Sunday mornings.

The Details

Dates of Internship: August 2018 through May 2019

Length of Internship: 10 Months (approx. 43 weeks)

Start date: August 2, 2018

Hours per week: 10 hours per week

This is a paid position.

Supervisor: Adult Ministries Pastor (Jeremy Adelman) will provide direction for the intern cohort. Worship Pastor (Jeff Boone) will provide weekly direction concerning ministry assignments.

Educational Component: A plan will be developed between the intern, Adult Ministries Pastor and Worship Pastor to complete ministry-focused education in addition to the internship hours (financial reimbursement is provided for materials needed to complete education plan).

Projects and Participation for Intern Involvement

The Worship Ministry Intern will meet weekly with the Adult Ministries Pastor for a brief check-in meeting and weekly with the Worship Pastor for a ministry oriented meeting. They will be one of five interns working with First Baptist during this time period and will have weekly meetings with the internship cohort which will include prayer, training and development. They will also have the opportunity to work alongside the Senior Pastor, others on the pastoral staff and lay leadership at First Baptist. The nature of this internship will require them to have ministry specific responsibilities on Sunday mornings and they will be asked to engage as part of the First Baptist community throughout their internship, including participation in Sunday mornings.

These are specific projects we would like the Worship Intern to help us with throughout the internship.

  • Help plan the weekly worship service
  • Assist in implementing the musical portion of the service
  • Add to the worship team musically and/or vocally
  • Additional projects as assigned and time allows

Kids Ministry Intern

The Purpose

It is First Baptist Church’s desire to grow and develop Christ-following leaders. Our hope is to help leaders achieve growth in all areas of life.

First Baptist Church is looking for a Kids Ministry Intern, to work in an internship capacity for up to ten months, beginning August 2, 2018. The intern will be a part of a cohort of five ministry interns. The cohort will meet together weekly for prayer, training and debriefing with the Adult Ministries Pastor. 

The Kids Ministry Intern will work with the Family Ministry Coordinator to help with volunteer training, ministry planning and program implementation on Sunday mornings in the Family Ministry area.

Dates of Internship: August 2018 through May 2019

Length of Internship: 10 Months (approx. 43 weeks)

Start date: August 2, 2018

Hours per week: 10 hours per week

This is a paid position.

Supervisor: Adult Ministries Pastor (Jeremy Adelman) will provide direction for the intern cohort and Family Ministry Coordinator (Serenity Ward) will provide weekly direction concerning Kids Ministry assignments.

Educational Component: A plan will be developed between the intern, Adult Ministries Pastor to complete ministry-focused education in addition to the internship hours (financial reimbursement is provided for materials needed to complete education plan). 

Projects and Participation for Intern Involvement

The Kids Ministry Intern will meet weekly with the Adult Ministries Pastor for a brief check-in meeting and weekly with the Family Ministry Coordinator for a ministry-oriented oriented meeting. They will be one of five interns working with First Baptist during this time period and will have weekly meetings with the internship cohort which will include prayer, training and development. They will also have the opportunity to work alongside the Senior Pastor, others on the pastoral staff and lay leadership at First Baptist. The nature of this internship will require them to have ministry specific responsibilities on Sunday mornings and they will be asked to engage as part of the First Baptist community throughout their internship, including participation in Sunday mornings at First Baptist. 

These are specific projects we would like the Kids Ministry Intern to help us with throughout the internship.

  • Be a part of planning weekly activities for the Kids Ministry
  • Work with the Family Ministry Coordinator to train volunteers in formal and informal settings
  • Assist in Sunday morning program implementation for the Kids Ministry
  • Help plan and implement Family Ministry events
  • Additional projects as assigned and time allows

Missions Intern

The Purpose

It is First Baptist Church’s desire to grow and develop Christ-following leaders. Our hope is to help leaders achieve growth in all areas of life.

First Baptist Church is looking for a Missions Intern, to work in an internship capacity for up to ten months, beginning August 2, 2018. The intern will be a part of a cohort of five ministry interns. The cohort will meet together weekly for prayer, training and debriefing with the Adult Ministries Pastor.

The Missions Intern will help the Missions Committee advance its goals while providing an opportunity for an emerging leader to develop skills and experience.

The Details

Dates of Internship: August 2018 through May 2019

Length of Internship: 10 Months (approx. 43 weeks)

Start date: August 2, 2018

Hours per week: 10 hours per week

This is a paid position.

Supervisor: Adult Ministries Pastor (Jeremy Adelman) will provide direction for the intern cohort and weekly direction concerning ministry assignments.

They will be asked to engage as part of the First Baptist community throughout their internship, including participation in Sunday mornings at First Baptist.

These are specific projects we would like the Missions Intern to help us with throughout the internship.

  • Communication between the Missions Committee and the Congregation
  • Communication between the Missions Committee and the missionaries First Baptist supports
  • Planning and promoting missions related events
  • Assist the Missions Committee in the execution of their vision for missions at First Baptist Church
  • Additional projects as assigned and time allows

Youth Ministry Intern

The Purpose

It is First Baptist Church’s desire to grow and develop Christ-following leaders. Our hope is to help leaders achieve growth in all areas of life. 

First Baptist Church is looking for a Youth Ministry Intern, to work in an internship capacity for up to ten months, beginning August 2, 2018. The intern will be a part of a cohort of five ministry interns. The cohort will meet together weekly for prayer, training and debriefing with the Adult Ministries Pastor.

The Youth Ministry Intern will work with the Youth Ministry Director to help with volunteer training, ministry planning and program implementation on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights in the Youth Ministry area.

Dates of Internship: August 2018 through May 2019

Length of Internship: 10 Months (approx. 43 weeks)

Start date: August 2, 2018

Hours per week: 10 hours per week

This is a paid position.

Supervisor: Adult Ministries Pastor (Jeremy Adelman) will provide direction for the intern cohort. Youth Ministry Director (Zach Mulvihill) will provide weekly direction concerning Youth Ministry assignments.

Educational Component: A plan will be developed between the intern and the Adult Ministries Pastor to complete ministry-focused education in addition to the internship hours (financial reimbursement is provided for materials needed to complete education plan).

Projects and Participation for Intern Involvement

The Youth Ministry Intern will meet weekly with the Adult Ministries Pastor for a brief check-in meeting and weekly with the Youth Ministry Director for a ministry orientated meeting. They will be one of five interns working with First Baptist during this time period and will have weekly meetings with the internship cohort which will include prayer, training and development. They will also have the opportunity to work alongside the Senior Pastor, others on the pastoral staff and lay leadership at First Baptist. The nature of this internship will require them to have ministry specific responsibilities on Sunday mornings and they will be asked to engage as part of the First Baptist community throughout their internship, including participation in Sunday mornings at First Baptist.

These are specific projects we would like the Youth Ministry Intern to help us with throughout the internship.

  • Be a part of planning weekly activities for the youth ministry
  • Work with the Youth Ministry Director to train volunteers in formal and informal settings
